Pablo River, 55, is the lead vinyl wrap technician for Noble Works and has been working in the vinyl industry for five years now. Born and raised in Veracruz, Mexico, Rivera left his home country for a new life experience. From the moment he arrived to Salem he started experimenting with different jobs that led him to where he is today.
Where are you from originally?
“I am originally from Tierra Blanca, Veracruz, Mexico.”
What brought you to the United States?
“Just pure adventure. I came to experience something new. My brother was already living in Oregon.”
What year was this?
“2004”
What was your first job?
“I worked on a tulip farm. For like two months. I couldn’t stand the cold. My hands were freezing. It’s so cold here, it was tough to adjust as I had just arrived from Mexico. So I had to leave the job. And then I went to construction with my brother for the next year and a half.”
And then?
“Then in 2006 I worked at a plant nursery until 2013. From that nursery, I later worked at another nursery for about four months before they let me go. Which led me to then work at a car wash in 2014.”
And then?
“I was at the car wash for about a year. The owner sold the car wash, so I went to work with Juan Vera at Duramax Transmissions. From 2016-2018, I was at Duramax detailing and washing cars. Then in 2018 Ariel started setting up his business. He was using a space at Duramax Transmissions. He asked me the following year, in 2019, if I would come to work with him to wrap cars. I told him yes.”
Did you have any experience wrapping cars?
“No, he taught me during my time at Duramax.”
How difficult or easy was it for you when you started that new job?
“It came easy. I’ve worked for many companies within the car industry so I picked up a lot of skills that transferred to this role.”
Before Ariel offered you the job, did you know anything about wrapping cars or what vinyl was?
“I didn’t have a clue. I would see him wrap cars while I was working and he would ask me to detail cars for him. Then he asked me to help him start putting spot graphics (logos) on vans. Then also to help with a boat wrap and then a Porsche wrap, several vehicles that arrived. And little by little I started picking up the practice and technique to be able to work with vinyl.”
What is your favorite thing about work?
“I really like to install vinyl. More specifically the way vinyl looks as the final product on a car. I don’t care what kind of vehicle it is. For me, all vehicles are the same, but each one represents a challenge for me because of the shape and moldings of the vehicles and how to work it. I don’t really care about wrapping a truck compared to a sports car.”
What interests you most in the industry?
“Well for me each vehicle is a challenge because not all vehicles are the same. A color change is very different in comparison to a commercial wrap. You can see that commercial vinyl wraps have graphics that need to be matched exactly. Every day is a challenge to improve my work!”
How would you rate your level of work?
“Well, I don’t know. No one has ever evaluated me officially. I always joke around when I finish a job and say, ‘Look just like a professional would have done it.’ I don’t know if I consider myself a professional yet. It’s a question that needs to be answered by someone certified to say yes. But if someone with a certificate told me, “Hey, you work very well.” Then I would be more confident in saying my work is professional level.” From a scale of one to ten, ten being the highest. I consider myself as a nine, because I have seen other works and not to criticize them, but I have seen that I have a better technique to apply vinyl than I’ve seen from others. I would consider myself semi-professional.
What is one of the biggest challenges that your work brings?
“Well, always customer satisfaction. I need to do the job well so that the client is satisfied with what is being delivered.”
What advice do you have for someone who’s starting out as an installer?
“I don’t know, maybe I would tell them some techniques that should be done so that he can also do his job well without spoiling so much material. More than anything if it’s new, well, I’ll be there to teach you a little about what vinyl is.”
What’s your favorite thing about working at Noble?
“I really like coming to company parties because it’s always a great atmosphere. Ariel was always a person that was friendly, genuine and honest with me. He is someone you appreciate having as a boss, as a friend or as a co-worker. Which is the environment we have here in the company. When I met Joey and you, I saw that y’all are a very united family. I also feel lucky because y’all are from my home state Veracruz as well.”

Pablo River, de 55 años, es el técnico principal de envolturas de vinilo de Noble Works y ha trabajado en la industria del vinilo durante cinco años. Nacido y criado en Veracruz, México, Rivera dejó su país de origen para vivir una nueva experiencia de vida. Desde el momento en que llegó a Salem comenzó a experimentar con diferentes trabajos que lo llevaron a donde se encuentra hoy.
¿De dónde eres originalmente?
“Soy originario de Tierra Blanca, Veracruz, México.”
¿Qué te trajo a los Estados Unidos?
“Nomás. Pura aventura. Vine a experimentar algo nuevo. Mi hermano ya vivía en Oregon.”
¿Qué año fue este?
“2004”
¿Dónde empezaste con el trabajo?
“En el campo. En una cosecha de tulipanes. Como por dos meses. No aguanté por el frío. Me congelaba las manos. Recién llegado de México y con el frío que hace aquí. Y me salí. Y después me fui a la construcción con mi hermano por casi un año y medio.”
¿Y luego?
“Luego en el 2006 trabajé en un vivero de plantas hasta el 2013. De ese vivero, luego trabajé en otro vivero por unos cuatro meses antes de que me dejaran ir. Lo que me llevó a trabajar en un lavado de autos en 2014.”
¿Y luego?
“El dueño decidió vender el car wash, y me fui a trabajar con Juan, Duramax Transmissions. Ahí estuve haciendo detalles y lavando carros. Estuve ahí 2016-2018. Como dos años ya después de cuando llegó Ariel a establecer su negocio. Ahí en el año 2018. Y ya después me pidió al siguiente año, en el 2019, que si me venía a trabajar con él para envolver carros. Le dije que sí.”
Y tenías experiencia envolviendo autos?
“No, él me enseñó cuando estábamos allí con Juan.”
Y qué tan difícil o fácil fue para ti cuando empezaste ese nuevo trabajo?
“Se me hizo fácil porque. He trabajado en muchas compañías y todo ese conocimiento lo voy adquiriendo uno ya.”
Antes de que Ariel te ofreciera el trabajo, ¿sabías algo sobre rotulación de autos o qué era el vinilo?
“Bueno, no tenía idea, pero sí lo veía cuando estaba trabajando ahí, y él me pedía que le limpiara los carros por fuera y por dentro. Luego me pedía que lo ayudara en instalar gráficos de logotipos en camionetas y en venes. Luego también a poner wrap en un barco y el Porsche, varios vehículos que llegaban. Y poco a poco agarrando la. La práctica y la técnica que ha ido enseñando para trabajar el vinil.
¿Cual es tu cosa favorita del trabajo?
“Me encanta poner el vinilo. Como la manera en que se ve el vinilo. No me importa el tipo de vehículo que sea. Para mí, todos los vehículos son iguales, pero cada uno para mi representa un reto por el tipo y forma de vehículo, algunas molduras, como trabajarlo y todo eso. Me da casi igual envolver una camioneta en comparación con un vehículo deportivo.”
¿Qué es lo que te interesa más de la industria?
“Para mí, cada vehículo es un reto hacerlo porque todos los vehículos no son iguales. Tanto cuando pones un vinilo sin figuras, al contrario cuando envolvemos con diseños comerciales. Envolvimientos comerciales de vinilo típicamente tienen figuras y se necesita macharlo. Cada día es un reto superar el trabajo!”
¿Qué grado de nivel le darás a tu trabajo?
“Pues no sé, todavía nadie me ha evaluado oficialmente. Cuando termino un trabajo y me queda bien, yo siempre le digo a alguien, ‘Mirá como si lo hubiera hecho un profesional.’ Pero no sé si me considero un profesional. Me gustaría que alguien certificado me pueda decir muy bien. Si alguien certificado me dijera, ‘Oye, trabajas muy bien.’ Tendría más confianza en el valor de mi trabajo. De una escala del uno al diez a la mayoría. Me considero como un nueve. Digo yo, porque he visto trabajos y no por criticarlos, pero he visto que tengo mejor técnica para poner vinilo comparado a otros que he vistoMe concederia ser semi-profesional.”
¿Cuál es uno de los más grandes retos que trae tu trabajo?
“La satisfacción del cliente. O sea, que yo haga bien el trabajo para que el cliente esté satisfecho con lo que se le está entregando.”
¿Qué consejo le darías a alguien que está comenzando como instalador?
“No sé, a lo mejor le diría algunas técnicas que se deben de hacer para que él pueda también hacer bien su trabajo sin echar a perder tanto material. Más que todo si es nuevo, pues enseñarle un poco de lo que es el vinil voy a estar a veces.”
¿Qué es lo que más te gusta de trabajar en Noble?
“Me gusta mucho venir a fiestas de empresa porque siempre hay un gran ambiente. Ariel siempre fue una persona amigable, genuina y honesta conmigo. Es alguien a quien aprecias tener como jefe, como amigo o como compañero de trabajo. Cuál es el ambiente que tenemos aquí en la empresa. Cuando conocí a Joey y a ti, vi que son una familia muy unida. También me siento afortunado porque todos ustedes son de mi estado natal, Veracruz.”
